The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said that its eastern market indicator (EMI) fell 1 cent to 753 cents a kg clean at its sales on Wednesday.
AWEX said its northern indicator at sales in Sydney was up 2 cents at 770 c/kg, while the southern indicator at sales in Melbourne eased 3 cents at 739 c/kg. The western indicator (Fremantle) fell 5 cents to 723 c/kg.
The northern market for merino fleece continued its steady ascent, with 17 microns and finer 25-35 cents dearer, and 22 microns and broader gaining up to 15 cents. Merino skirtings with higher vegetable matter eased by 5 cents. Crossbreds of 25-26 microns rose 5 cents, and crutchings gained 10 cents across the board.
Prices in Melbourne eased slightly, with 18.5 and 20 micron types losing 14 and 9 cents respectively. Some lots of mid-to- high vegetable matter merino skirtings lost 5-10 cents, and crutchings were marginally cheaper.
The Western market saw losses in most types of merino fleece, with finer microns closing 5 cents cheaper and broader microns 10 cents cheaper. Skirtings moved against the trend evident in fleece types, with solid support pushing pieces 1 percent higher. Crutchings remained generally unchanged.
