A PPP candidate in the recently held elections for the technocrat seat in Senate from Punjab, Dr Israr Hussain Shah has filed a petition before the Election Commission praying to declare the election of Haroon Akhtar Khan as illegal, unlawful and void, said a press release on Saturday.
Dr Israr Hussain Shah, in his election petition, said that Haroon Akhtar Khan was not qualified to contest election on technocrat seat because he had no experience in the field of actuary as he has not been practising as actuary.
In fact, he has been working as chief executive/managing director/director of several industries, including Pepsi Cola, Tandlianwala Sugar Mills, Riaz Bottlers, and Superior Textile Mills, and has also mentioned this in his nomination papers when he contested for the two provincial assembly seats 155 and 156 as PML(Q) candidate in Punjab and lost the elections in 2002, he said.
Since Haroon Khan misinformed the authorities about his profession and experience, he should be declared illegible to hold the Senate seat as a technocrat, and Dr Israr Shah be declared successful for the technocrat seat till the final disposal of the petition.
The petition was filed by Mian Muhammad Hanif Tahir, advocate, high court on behalf of Dr Israr Shah.-PR
