Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi, Commissioner Punjab Employees Social Security Institutions (Pessi) has agreed in principle to constitute a powerful committee to review and settle the outstanding arrears on account of Social Security Contribution of Rs 720 million against powerlooms industry, hosiery units and spinning sectors etc, while Rs 150 million were being added in this account every year.
During a meeting with the leading industrialists, businessmen and labour leaders at Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said that government was creating friendly atmosphere by establishing a transparent computerisation system. He said that Pessi wanted to settle this issue on permanent basis so that powerlooms industry, hosiery units and other small-scale industries might come into the mainstream of social security contribution in the best interest of the industrial workers.
Muhammad Akram Ghouri, Vice Chairman, All Pakistan Cotton Powerlooms Association said that the last Social Security Asses Survey was conducted one-sided, which was created so many problems for powerloom industry.
He very clearly mentioned that why should pay the contribution when their workers were not properly being treated in Social Security hospitals. Moreover, he said that the Pessi survey record had revealed that it did not contain actual facts and figures. Expressing his views, Sheikh Ashfaq Ahmad, former President FCCI and member Board of Management Tevta Faisalabad said that we should discontinue the disputes over the matters of Social Security Contribution arrears etc and should closed this chapter once for all as Central Board of Revenue had closed the Chapter relating to the Sales Tax affairs through a powerful committee.
Ashfaq Ahmad strongly demanded that a high level powerful committee should be constituted with a view to deciding the disputes relating to the social security contribution.
Mian Muhammad Hanif, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that now the time had changed and neither the industrial workers were willing to agitate against the factory owners, nor the factory owners were working against the interests of the working class, but both the parties were actively engaged in thinking for the betterment and welfare of each other. He demanded that the relief amount of deceased worker for "Kafin and Dafin" should be increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 to meet the price hike expenses.
Sheikh Niaz Ahmad, Vice President FCCI, Mian Amjad Saeed, former President FCCI, Labour leader Syeda Sajida and many other taking part in this debate and presenting the proposals to solve the outstanding arrears issue permanently for next smooth working.
