Senior Superintendent of the new Islamabad Traffic Police Sultan Azam Taimuri on Sunday said his force was free from corruption and discharging its duties with commitment and devotion. "There is zero corruption in our set-up and I am very proud of this," he said while talking to APP.
He said my police officers have vowed to be polite and friendly with the public and they feel very happy to be the part of force, which is very disciplined and free from corruption. He said a positive change has been also witnessed in the attitude of people who are following the traffic rules like a civilised nation.
The SSP said speed-checking radars have been installed also at 15 black spots (spots with more chances of accidents). " The ratio of accidents and traffic rules violation are on decline after installation of these radars" he added.
He said direction and intention of police force is right and " we want to address the existing problems through the public co-operation".
Taimuri said it is premature to derive any conclusion about this newly-established force. " We have overcome several problems and trying our best to facilitate road-users" he added. He expressed his commitment to ensure friendly police culture through polite and good attitude.
The SSP said that 34,238 vehicles were fined since the inauguration of traffic police on January 28 with a challan amount of Rs 7.4 million. He said the friendly policing can be imagined from the fact that there are only 4 or 5 complaints about traffic staff out of these 34,238 cases of challans.
He appealed to encourage good performance of the force and said two more traffic squads have been established to overcome traffic problems. The SSP said "we are working to develop a monitoring system following which a traffic volunteer would be deployed at Chowks where there is no traffic cop." This traffic volunteer would inform the cop at next Chowk about the violator," he added.
To a question, he said the entire challan amount goes to the national exchequer. The whole challan amount presently goes to the national exchequer, however, a plan is in pipeline which suggests 25 percent amount as reward to challaning authority, 25 percent for the road safety education and rest 50 percent to be deposited in the government account," he said.
