Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed said here on Sunday that through introducing pilot preventive school vaccination campaign children could be protected from typhoid, cholera and other communicable and non-communicable fatal diseases.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of people belonging to various walks of life.
The government has evolved a comprehensive strategy for strengthening environmental health measures through community-based initiatives, practical strategies and capacity building activities at local levels, he said.
The minister said that an action plan was underway, under the President's 'Clean and Safe Water Supply Programme' and 1000 water supply schemes were being completed in the province at a cost of Rs 5 billion for provision of clean and safe drinking water.
He said that Rs 15 billion would be spent for the supply of safe and clean drinking water to the masses during three years.
He said that the government was giving top priority to supply of clean and safe drinking water to the masses, "as it is essential for human health and to prevent the spread of fatal diseases like Hepatitis, Typhoid etc, whereas water testing laboratories would also be set up in small towns of the province.
Meanwhile, addressing a delegation of women, the Health Minister said that the government has reactivated the women health project (WHP).
