Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro said on Sunday the government will continue to facilitate holding of industrial exhibitions for boosting economic activity and employment generation in the country. He was talking to journalists during his visit to textile machinery exhibition - Textile Asia - organised by E-commerce Gateway at the Karachi Expo Centre.
He was of the opinion that exhibitions provide a platform for contacts between buyers and sellers which leads to business deals.
Soomro said that Pakistan has a lot of potential and that should be highlighted in the world. Exhibitions are a power tool for highlighting this potential, he observed.
He noted that exhibitions generate a lot of economic activities besides generating job opportunities. Exhibitions also provide opportunities for joint ventures, he added.
He said that machinery exhibitions are helpful for small and medium entrepreneurs, who could not afford to visit foreign countries to buy machinery for their organisations. They can select their choice of machinery in such exhibitions and place orders for the purchase without going abroad, he observed.
Soomro asked the E-commerce Gateway to highlight other sectors of the economy which are currently in focus so that they can also get a boost.
Earlier, E-commerce Gateway President Dr Khursheed Nizam, in his opening remarks, said that more than 750 stalls were displaying latest textile and garment machinery from all over the world. Nearly 250 of them are foreign exhibitors from 45 countries.
He said that Mohammedmian Soomro had greatly helped his organisation in holding the first exhibition ITCN when he was Sindh governor.
Infact, he (Soomro) is the main force behind it. He is still supporting us, he added.
Meanwhile, Sindh Agriculture Minister Mir Murtaza Khan Jatoi also visited various stalls at the show and appreciated the organisers for holding such a quality exhibition.
