City Nazim, Mustafa Kamal has said that providing clean drinking water to the citizens of Karachi is among the foremost priorities of City District Government Karachi and no efforts are being spared to achieve this goal.
Talking to a delegation of Wiretake Private Limited here at his office on Saturday, Kamal pointed out that Karachi's water requirement is 620 MGD while 530 MGD water is being supplied at the moment.
He said instead of working on a long-term project the focus is on short-term schemes to provide quick relief to the people. He said desalination plants were being installed to overcome the shortage of water through making the seawater useable.
"The additional water of 100 MGD would be supplied to the city after completion of K-III project," he said, adding that through this project water would preferably be supplied to those areas, which are facing acute shortage of water.
He informed the delegation that filter plants would also be installed at difference locations in the city.
Mustafa Kamal said any project that is for the welfare of the people would be immediately initiated. "I believe in actions not words while the promises made to the people must be kept," he remarked.
