Higher literacy rate is imperative for progress, development and prosperity, said Provincial Minister for Literacy Syed Hussain Jahanian Gardezi, here on Sunday. Talking to people at a reception at Basti Maan Wala, tehsil Kabirwala, the provincial minister said Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi efforts are remarkable to get rid of ignorance and illiteracy from the society.
He said the Chief Minister has taken a lot of steps to raise literacy rate and improve the standard of education in the province.
Quoting some of these measures the minister said abolition of school fee, provision of free books and payment of stipend to female students resulted in increased school enrolment considerably.
He added that in 100 union councils of Khanewal district as many as 10,000 literacy centres would be established with the allocation of Rs 330 million in four years.
