Punjab government in collaboration with Asian Development Bank (ADB) would spend Rs 9 billion on the remodelling of canals across the province.
This was stated by chairman provincial standing committee for irrigation Sardar Shaukat Ali Dogar while addressing the officers of the irrigation department, Nazims and farmers here on Sunday.
He said the remodelling project would ensure sufficient irrigation water for farmers and help bring about green revolution in Punjab.
He said all watercourses and miners are being brick-lined across the province.
Sardar Dogar added that the government is taking measures to provide clean drinking water to the masses and water supply schemes are being carried out in the province.
He said agriculture is the backbone of country's economy, adding, the government is taking concrete steps for the promotion of agriculture sector.
