Pakistan and China have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to cooperate in providing better health facilities to their peoples. The document identified seven areas of bilateral co-operation in the health sector.
It was agreed that the relevant institutions of the two countries will undertake joint ventures to improve public health system and fight against infectious diseases.
The Chinese side offered to help establishing hospitals and special treatment clinics in Pakistan.
Sources said here on Sunday that the document also provides a framework of co-operation, initiating medical study and research in special fields such as cardiology, neurosurgery and cancer.
Under another MoU, signed by Pakistan Ambassador to China Salman Bashir, the two countries also agreed on a plan of action to establish mutually beneficial co-operative partnership in the field of vocational training.
They also laid down certain modalities to implement the plan within next three years. A joint working group will be set up to ensure its proper implementation.
Sources said the vocational training centers in joint ventures will help develop skilled manpower in line with the standards of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
They said the Chinese government under a separate agreement also showed its willingness to assist Pakistan in establishing a climate prediction center. It was agreed that both countries will co-operate for training of personnel, studying on meteorological sciences and technology and collaborative research in the relevant field.
These documents carried special significance since these were inked in the presence of President Pervez Musharraf and Chinese President Hu Jintao when they met in Beijing last month.
