Firmness prevailed in the currency market on Monday as the rupee managed to resist sharp decline versus the rupee and the euro, dealers said.
The rupee shed one paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at 60.19 and 60.20. The local currency fell slightly as demand for dollar was low as compared to the other days of the week due to international market closure on Sunday.
In the world markets, the dollar recouped some losses after the tame US economic data, which subdued the expectations of higher US interest, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee posted fresh gain of five paisa versus the dollar for buying at 60.30 while it firmly held its weekend level of 60.40 for selling, respectively.
The rupee, however, gave up losses modestly, picking up 40 paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 72.75 and Rs 72.85 in process of trading, moneychangers said.
