Database of district profile is being evolved to identify the problems faced by people at grassroots level, particularly in backward and neglected areas, said Minister of State for Finance Omer Ayub Khan on Monday.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said the Federal government had set up Khushal Pakistan Fund, which would reinforce the pace of development activities at district, tehsil and union levels.
He said special emphasise would be given to provide farm-to-market road facility in the identified areas through this fund.
Local governments had a number of problems at grassroots level which they were some time not able to address due to lack of resources, he said, adding the Khushal Pakistan Fund would provide them an opportunity to implement maximum development projects.
He said the macro economic conditions in the country had improved and it was imperative to shift the impact of that phenomena to grassroots level. Initially, rupees five billion had been allocated for the fund and efforts would be made to raise it up to one percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), the minister said.
To a question, he said the monitoring of that fund would be made through an efficient mechanism to ensure appropriate utility of resources provided by the Federal government.
He said the fund would help boost economic activity at grassroots level and more employment opportunities would be created.
