An extra high tension (EHT) of 132 kV underground cable connection from Civic Center to Liaquatabad further leading to Haroonabad grid station has been damaged at two places because of developmental work in progress in the area.
The spokesman for the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on Tuesday, in a statement, said the main line was broken at 4:45 am early Tuesday morning due to excavation work near Gharibabad for the shifting of gas lines.
Two days back, the same line extending to Haroonabad grid station had damaged under the Nazimabad overhead bridge and was in the process of repair, he added.
The power supply to the Liaquatabad grid has, therefore, been completely stopped and cannot be back-fed because of damage on both sides of the Civic Centre-Liaquatabad-Haroonabad EHT cable line.
The consumers being supplied electricity from the affected grid would suffer power interruptions till the damaged line is repaired, the Spokesman explained. The power utility's engineers and workers have already started EHT cable joining. The KESC management deeply regrets the inconvenience and has appealed to the consumers of Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Federal 'B' Area to cooperate with the power utility and use it with prudence to avoid overloading as it may add to the gravity of the situation and may cause further trippings.-PR
