The Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M. Khan admitted on Thursday that he was worried about Pakistan's brittle batting during three match one-day series against Sri Lanka,
"Pakistan batting faced bit of trouble during the series and it worries me," he told a news conference at National Stadium on his return from Dubai after attending the meeting of International Cricket Council (ICC) held there on March 21-22.
"It was disappointing to see set batsmen were losing their wickets. They must carry the team after looking well set and lost their wickets and put them team under pressure,".
He however said it was nice to see Pakistan team jumping to third spot in ICC One-Day International (ODI) after 2-0 series victory over the host.
Pakistan could muster 201 for 8 50 overs in rain-ruined opening one-dayer and made the mess of Sri Lankan modest of 131 and faced a great deal hardship in third final ODI while chasing 225 as their set batsmen went to indiscreet strokes.
"I think more concentration is required from them to take the through in such situation after getting well set," he pointed out.
He dismissed the impressions that Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was under pressure in the scenario that he was offered Sri Lankan team coaching assignment which he turned down.
Shaharyar Khan said Pakistan and India will be playing back-to-back matches on March 16 and 19 to raise funds for Earthquake Victims and these matches will be played at newly built state-of-Art Abu Dhabi Stadium.
He said back to back matches has been fixed to save time and money despite complains of players for the lack rest in between matches during tours.
The PCB Chairman said Pakistan would be playing offshore series in United Arab Emirates, Europe, American and Canada whenever team got time.
Regarding the Twenty20 World Cup, he said ICC has given options to teams not interested to take part in 2007 Twenty20 World Cup. However it will be mandatory for all ICC members to feature in the 2009 event.
"My personal opinion about twenty20 cricket that it was debasing cricket," Shaharyar Khan asserted. However he said England, South Africa4 Australia and New Zealand are very keen about the twenty20 cup.
