Estonian shipping company Tallink Group has signed an agreement to buy three ro-pax vessels (roll-on, roll-off ferries) in a cash deal worth 310 million euros ($376.4 million) from Greek firm Attica Group, Tallink said on Tuesday.
"Pending legal and regulatory procedures the transaction will close in April 2006," Tallink in a statement.
The ships will allow the company to meet growing cargo demand and take advantage of an opportunity to enter the central European market, the company added.
Tallink is the market leader on the Tallinn-Helsinki route and operates ships between Estonia and Sweden.
Previously it had expressed interest in the loss-making Silja line, a leading passenger and cargo shipping firm in the Baltic Sea which operates on the Helsinki-Stockholm route. US passenger and freight transport operator Sea Containers put its Finnish Silja unit up for sale in November.
