US FOB Gulf corn and soyabean basis offers were mostly steady on Thursday, underpinned by the slow pace of farmer selling, traders said. Hard red winter wheat basis offers were higher, supported by a pick up in demand for high-protein wheat.
"Protein wheat traded higher for trains," a wheat trader said, referring to wheat headed to Guld export terminals.
Traders were unable to confirm if there had been any fresh export sale, especially to Iraq, which this week bought 100,000 tonnes of HRW wheat from the United States.
Soybean basis offers were steady amid sluggish export demand due to cheaper supplies in South America. Gains in the CIF barge market did not trickle down to export values.
Corn basis values were steady, supported by slow farmer selling and routine export demand, traders said.
Traders said rumours of the deadly bird flu spreading to neighbouring Mexico had no impact on the market. Mexican authorities denied a duck had died in the town of Nogales bordering Arizona because of bird flu.
