Mexico has produced 3,188,473 tonnes of sugar so far in the 2005/06 harvest, 10.87 percent less than in the same period last year, the National Cane Workers Union said on Thursday.
Sugar production for the week ended March 18 was 248,144 tonnes, up 0.88 percent from the 245,974 tonnes produced in the same period last year, according to figures from the Cane Workers' Union Web site (http://www.caneros.org.mx).
The union estimates that the country's 2005/06 sugar production will be about 5.3 million tonnes, down from previous estimates of about 5.6 million tonnes.
