The role of women entrepreneurs all over the world has assumed a high degree of importance for enhancing internal trades and boosting exports and resultant economic activities.
To keep pace with the fast changing business climate in this era of globalisation and competition when a country's strength depends upon its economic strength, there is a dire need that women entrepreneurs in Pakistan are empowered and encouraged to come forward and join the main stream of economic activities.
The women in Pakistan form 48 percent of the population, which is nearly half of the country's population. Islam gives equal right to the women with men, and even Western world also advocates no gender discrimination. In keeping with the policy of no gender discrimination, we must focus on socio-economic empowerment of the women by encouraging women entrepreneurs in the field of business and commercial activities.
Nevertheless, the need to create awareness among the women entrepreneurs to enhance their business on scientific basis cannot be overemphasised. For creating awareness it is essential to exchange information, share experience and impart training to women entrepreneurs to keep them abreast of the latest developments and procedural requirement of doing the businesses in the country and to help them explore the markets for export of traditional as well as non-traditional items.
There can be no two opinions on it that holding of seminars and workshops for strengthening the role of women in various sectors of the economy would go a long way in creating awareness, in educating, training and developing the women entrepreneurs in the country and also helping them to flourish.
For the benefit of women entrepreneurs in Pakistan the 4th Dimension Pvt Ltd is organising a Women Expo in April 2006, with the support of the Ministry of Women Development Government of Pakistan, where the women entrepreneurs would be provided stalls on a highly subsidised rates so that women entrepreneurs may be able to display their products for export and also to introduce these products to local consumers.
It is an effort to encourage and unite the women entrepreneurs on one platform.
The role of women in economic development of a country is now being acknowledged world over. In this era of competition when a country's strength truly depends on its economic independence and stability, the women around the globe are playing pivotal role in the economic activities of the respective countries. To encourage business women and to come forward to interact with their business counterparts and to express their business capabilities so that they could participate in economic activities with full vibrancy and vigour and to portray positive side of our women, the need of a formal platform from where they could take off was highly felt in the country for quite some time.
Women entrepreneurs need opportunity to meet, interact, vocalise and assert themselves as good business women. The greater number of women participation particularly their direct and dynamic role in the economic activities of the country, must be encouraged.
Various courses, seminars and workshops in collaboration with different public and private sector organisations ought to be conducted to enhance the skill and intellect to do business of women entrepreneurs.
In Women's Expo female entrepreneurs will find a platform where they could share their practical experiences with the participants, and would enlighten them on the opportunities available and the challenges faced by the Pakistani women entrepreneurs.
There is enormous potential in women entrepreneurs of Pakistan and good opportunities are also available. It is also necessary to provide guidelines to women artisans and small-scale manufacturers to explore markets for their antique design goods and handmade articles.
There is a requirement to arrange for training programmes on regular basis for the business women to get an opportune and explore export markets of their value added home-made, décor, clothing, and other products. The government needs to apprise them on WTO agreements, and other opportunities and challenges. This will evaluate and help analysing in detail the existing opportunities, future requirements, the constraints and measures to meet the challenges.
