No human case reported positive in bird flu, said Syed Anwar Mehmood, Secretary Health in a meeting to overview the performance of JPMC attended by National Assembly Standing Committee on health.
The meeting was presided over by Dr Hajra Tariq Aziz, Malik Saifullah Khan Tiwana, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Nawab Mirza, Mrs Shamshad Sattar Bachani, Maulana Khaleel Ahmad, Mrs Belum Hasnain, Arbab Zakaullah and Mrs Rahila Yahya, Parliamentary Secretary for health also attended the meeting.
Responding to the query of Saifullah Tiwana regarding bird flu, Syed Anwar Mehmood, Secretary Health further mentioned that 12 labs under Ministry of Agriculture are continuously testing samples but no human case is reported positive.
Answering a question of Dr Hajra Tariq regarding the medical injured bill passed by the same committee in which emergency patients are to be given free treatment, Professor Mashoor Alam Shah Executive Director told the committee that the bill is implemented in JPMC with free treatment to emergency patients.
Nawab Mirza pointed out the need of establishing better communication network and provision of free drugs to all the patients. Replying this, Syed Anwar Mehmood informed the committee that realising this need of satisfying all the patients, government has increased the budget of JPMC from 455 million in 2004-05 to 657 million in 2005-06.
He further told the committee about the Hepatitis Control Programme in which Rs 50.55 crores will be spent annually to provide free medicines to around 5000 patients. More funds are expected to be allocated for this programme. Talking about the future projects, the committee was briefed about the transformation of JPMC into new medical tower. In this project four interconnected towers will be made with increased facilities and modern equipment.
In the end the committee ensured full support to the management of JPMC and appreciated their performance in limited resources.-PR
