Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday said Pakistan was trying to promote nature tourism in country's Northern Areas that offers incredible slopes, ideal for skiing.
He made these remarks while talking to a group of 19 skiers from France, Switzerland, England, the United States and Argentina, who have recently returned from a skiing trip to the Deosai plain.
The prime minister said Pakistan was the most under explored country in the world and the government was trying to leverage its natural beauty.
Apart from the natural beauty, Pakistan is the cradle of Indus, Gandhara and Buddhist civilisations and has attractive sites for both general and religious tourism, he added. He said the northern areas were a heaven for skiers as five of the 12 highest peaks are located in Pakistan.
He said the government, in collaboration with private sector, wanted to develop these sites to encourage people to come and see the natural beauty. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said people were pleasantly surprised when they visited Pakistan and found that the people here were very friendly and there are scenic places.
Talking to media, skiers termed their activities in Deosai plains as amazing and incredible experience.
They said that Pakistan has a huge potential in skiing. However, they pointed that there was a need to develop infrastructure to attract more people to visit. They said their overall experience was fantastic.
Minister for Tourism, GG Jamal and Secretary Tourism, Salim Gul Sheikh were also present.
