Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday said the government was working for formulation and enforcement of more strict laws to check crimes such as human and drug trafficking and was taking steps to provide better economic opportunities for uplift of deprived sections of the society.
Talking to Ansar Burney Welfare Trust Chairman Syed Ansar Burney, he said the government's comprehensive strategy involved preventive as well as curative steps to improve the human rights situation and create better environment for the economic progress.
Human rights violations among other factors also stem from poverty, inequality and deprivation in a society, he said and added, the government was working on a two-pronged strategy to improve the situation that included legal reforms, economic improvement and awareness about social evils.
"To address the root causes of human rights violations, the government is focusing on economic uplift of the deprived sections of society, provision of facilities of education and more opportunities to improve their financial position", the Prime Minister said.
The government, he added, was also working for economic and social empowerment of women and to ensure that women were not forced to join professions against their will.
The law and order and human rights situation in Balochistan also came under discussion. The Prime Minister said the government had allocated 54 percent share of Khushhal Pakistan Fund to Balochistan and 30,000 more jobs were being created for the people of the province.
The diversion of development funds and completion of mega projects like Gwadar Port, construction of roads and dams will change the economic profile of the province.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the explicit and implicit writ of the state in the province would be ensured. "The government will never compromise on sovereignty and a state within state will never be allowed", he added.
The Prime Minister appreciated the contribution made by Ansar Burney Trust in rescuing the camel jockeys and other innocent Pakistani citizens detained in foreign countries on various pretexts.
During the meeting Ansar Burney pointed to various kind of human trafficking from Pakistan to other countries and the issue of illegal immigrants.
The Prime Minister asked Burney to provide him detailed information about specific cases and assured him that government would take very strict action against the culprits.
Ansar Burney informed the Prime Minister that he and his team would be soon visiting Balochistan to investigate complaints of human rights violation by some Sardars, which had been brought to their notice, adding that his organisation would unveil the facts thorough media.
