The Vice-Chancellor of GC University, Faisalabad, and Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool, has stressed upon the scientist to accelerate their efforts to meet the requirement of the society and industry.
He was speaking as chief guest at the last semi-technical session of the three-day international seminar on "Application of plant sciences in emerging scenario," organised by the Botany Department of the GC University, Faisalabad.
The seminar, which concluded here on Tuesday, was attended and addressed by eminent scientists from home and abroad. The Governor, in his brief address, also paid tributes to the faculty members of the Botany Department for holding the international symposium.
The foreign delegates, attending the seminar, included Alison Roberts from Scotland, who delivered a lecture on "Confocal Microscopy at Scotish Crop Research Institute", while Dr Rob Briddon from United Kingdom read paper on "Emergence evolution and control of cotton leaf curl disease complex."
Dr Ashraf Chaudhry from the United States and Dr Antoon Akkermans from the Netherlands shed light on "Ecological strategies ruling development of microbial communities", while Dr Munir Ozturk from Turkey and Dr Serdal Sakeali from Istanbul delivered lecture on "Role of flowering plants in renovation of waste water" and Dr Shahida Hussain (Punjab University) read paper on "Ribotyping - A tool for bacterial identification".
Prominent scholars from national universities and research organisation also participated in the symposium.
GC University Vice Chancellor Dr Asif Iqbal Khan thanked the foreign and national delegates for their participation in the symposium, and stressed the need for holding such symposium in future to enhance quality education, which was the need of the hour.
There were three technical sessions and a poster session on the inaugural day. First session was on "Plant stress responses," chaired by Dr Ajmal Khan and rapporteur by Dr Yusaf Zafar. Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Dr Yasin Ashraf and Arsalan Yousaf presented their views on the topic.
The second session was on "Plant Physiology," chaired by Dr Muhammad Ashraf and rapporteur by Dr Sajjad Mirza. Dr Shehzad Ahmad Basra, Dr Raza Bhatti and Dr Fahim Aftab presented their views.
The third and last session was chaired by Dr M. Yasin Ashraf and rapporteur by Dr Fahim Aftab. The topic of this session was anatomy and bio-diversity.
Mansoor Hameed, Shumyla Nawazish and Rashida Perveen highlighted their views on the topics. There were three technical sessions and a semi-technical session on the second day of the seminar.
The first session was on "Phtyremediation," chaired by Dr Shahida Husnain and rapporteur by Dr Raza Bhatti. Dr Munir Ozturk, T.M Qureshi (NIAB), Dr Sedral Sckal and Syeda Anjum Tahira presented their views on the topic.
The second session was on "Plant virology," chaired by Dr Antoon Akhermans and rapporteur by Dr Fayyaz Chaudhry. Dr Alison Roberts, Dr Rob Briddon, M. Tahir, M Siddique and Mazhar Hussain presented their views.
Chairperson of the third technical session was Dr Fauzia Yusuf and rapporteur Dr M. Hanif. The topic of this session was microbiology. Dr Antoon Akhermans, Dr Shahida Husnain, Dr Sajjad Mirza, Dr Fatiha Mubeen and Sadia Naseem highlighted their views on the topics.
In the last semi-technical session, chaired by Dr M. Hanif and Dr Munir Ozturk, started in the presence of University Chancellor and Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool. Dr Shahida Husnain, Dr Alison Roberts, Dr Muhammad Ashraf and Dr Antoonn Akhermans shared their view and discussed the problems of research in the universities of the developing countries.

The second session was on biotechnology, chaired by Dr Alison Roberts and rapporteur by Dr Sohail Hameed. Dr Fouzia Yusuf, Zarrin Fatima and Mohsin Tariq presented their views.
Chairperson of the third special technical session was Dr Fauzia Yusuf and rapporteur Dr Mubashir Niaz. The topic of this session was "Electron microscopy."
In the concluding session, the chief guest was the Vice-Chancellor of Agriculture University, Faisalabad.
