Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has said that development projects worth Rs 140 billion are underway in the province. In an interview with BBC TV, he said after October 1999 special attention was given to the development of Balochistan.
Many social sector development projects had been initiated in the province on the directives of President Pervez Musharraf, he added. To a question, he said tribal chieftains were not fighting for the rights of Baloch people. They had their own objectives, he added.
The governor said, in the past tribal elite monopolised the entire political structure, development process and funds. "They used to dictate but this time they are not in the loop", he added.
He said now these sardars were struggling for their political survivor and common people in the province wanted development of their areas, he said.
