US blue chip stocks fell on Thursday, as Treasury yields rose to the highest level in nearly two years after data showed stronger inflation than previously thought going into the new year.
Interest-rate-sensitive stocks, such as banks and utilities, fell on fears that the Federal Reserve will keep raising rates to tame inflation.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 36.26 points, or 0.32 percent, at 11,179.44. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 0.63 of a point, or 0.05 percent, at 1,303.52. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.46 points, or 0.19 percent, at 2,342.24.
