Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri has urged India to implement Kashmir-specific confidence building measures (CBM) and stressed the need for meaningful progress towards resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Pakistan of course wants durable peace but that can only be achieved when the core issue is addressed amicably, he said in an interview with PTV in the context of recent proposal of a treaty of peace, security and friendship by the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"We welcome the sentiments of the Indian Prime Minister but we feel frankly that the purpose of composite dialogue is to consider all issues simultaneously", Kasuri said.
He said that suggestions like the Indian leader's proposal were made in the past too but they were rarely implemented. "What that proved was that you can agree on all the good things but they will not be implemented". Kasuri said adding that unfortunately that was what the history shows.
He said this was not the view of Pakistan alone but also the ultimate analysis of independent observers.
He said the climate between Pakistan and India had improved and there were some Kashmir specific CBMs also, but it was the time now to deal with the real issues to make the process of composite dialogue irreversible.
