The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is providing quick, authentic and foolproof personality verifications through its online systems, enabling banks and other authorities to facilitate genuine citizens in their day-to-day transactions and needs.
A press release issued by the Nadra here said the growing security concerns, both in the financial and other sectors, were demanding a nation-wide network of foolproof authentication systems to segregate genuine citizens' record from the fake and fraud.
Keeping in view the scenario, the Nadra has established the systems "Verisys & Biosys" to ensure safe and transparent commercial activities.
More than 80 organisations, particularly, financial institutions have acquired Nadra's Verisys and Biosys systems to authenticate their clients through the national database. So far more than two million verifications of records have been made using this system.
Through these systems the banks would be able to authenticate the account holders or applicants and could also be updated accordingly.
The SBP governor had asked Nadra to ensure uninterrupted accessibility to information through these systems, as the banks would be interested in timely availability of the required data.
Now, the authority is planning to equip the Nadra bill machines with the verification system Verisys, in order to facilitate the general public helping them to verify the credentials of a person they are making a business deal.
This technology, which was earlier available in the developed countries only, would help eliminate ambiguity about the borrowers, as verification system is authentic, updated and accessible to all banks.
These locally developed high-tech verification systems provide a unique solution to cater a wide array of users and administration to improve the current cash disbursement system thus eliminating chances of fraud.
These long awaited systems would help financial institutions to validate their customer status. Nadra's newly developed online identity verification service - Verisys, would allow all the banks to positively establish their customers' identities through dial-up connections in a fast and cost effective manner.
All Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) carry a 2D barcode. The thumb impression is stored in this barcode and for identification; this will be matched with the thumb impression.
Financial institutions like banks, leasing companies and government agencies etc that have to validate their customer status, have been using the traditional method of keeping a photocopy of customers' NIC. But with the introduction of Verisys, such organisations can easily establish their customers' identities through dial-up connections in a hassle-free manner.
The Verisys provides information about front and back image of the CNIC while additional information is available to verify the person by asking questions like mother's maiden name, father's place of birth and wife's name etc. This information about the client does not appear on the ID card thus a person not true holder of the card cannot answer these questions which will enable the verifier to detect fraud cases.
