Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro on Saturday said the possibilities of joint ventures in the banking sector should be explored as it would definitely facilitate trade deals and promote trade between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
He made these observations while talking to the President of Sri Lanka, Mahindra Rajapaksa whom he called on here.
Soomro expressed the hope that business delegations of the two countries would explore the avenues of going into joint ventures and investment.
The Senate Chairman said technology based education and computer literacy was the need of the hour and that globally competitive quality education should be opted by our younger generation.
The Senate Chairman informed the Sri Lankan Head of State that Information Technology has picked up tremendously in Pakistan during the last few years, said a press release on Saturday.
He said it was a matter of great satisfaction that literacy rate in Sri Lanka was very high and that a number of Sri Lankan teachers were already engaged in the teaching profession imparting education in Pakistan's educational institutions.
President of Sri Lanka highlighted close and fraternal relations between the two countries in various fields.
He underlined the need for people-to-people contacts and observed closer co-operation between the Parliaments of Pakistan and Sri Lanka was needed.
The Senate Chairman informed the Sri Lankan President that Parliamentary co-operation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka existed at various levels and that Pakistan's parliamentary delegation was already in Sri Lanka to participate in Saarc Speakers Conference.
