Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday said all the economic sectors like exports and privatisation had registered record growth.
Talking to media persons after chairing the concluding ceremony of the three-day spring festival here, he said, all out efforts were in hand to arrest the price escalating trends of daily use items.
"President General Pervez Musharraf has already directed the concerned quarters to take appropriate steps to check the price hike," he said in reply to a question.
Answering another question, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said, the situation in Balochistan was under control and efforts were in-hand to properly deal with those elements, who are opposing development in the province.
He said, "efforts are being made in the right direction to check the anti-development elements in the province."
Earlier, speaking at the prize distribution ceremony at Zila Council Stadium, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that festivals are integral part of our social life and holding of "mela" greatly contributes to enhancement of local culture and sports.
Attock festival not only projects local games but also encourages local craftsmen to introduce their products at national level.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed appreciated efforts of the festival organisers, which he said would go a long way in promoting healthy activities in the area.
He eulogised the efforts of District Nazim Attock Major Tahir Sadiq (Retd) and his team for making the event a complete success. He said such type of events not only kick off healthy activities especially among the youth, but also provide numerous opportunities to the amateur breeders to bring different breeds in the festival to win prizes.
He presented prizes in various categories. Malik Saad Tariq Khan was judged the best horse rider, while Sher Afzal Khan was declared second. Naeem Akram Khan obtained first position in tent-pegging competition, while Chaudhry Majid Farooq remained second and Nasir Ali Sipra stood third.
Jamshed Lodhi was judged first and Sardar Hamayoon Akhbar Khan second in clay pigeon shooting.
Tahir Sadiq presented souvenir to the chief guest. District Naib Nazim Malik Saheen Khan and Senator Sardar Mahmood Khan were also present, besides notables and elected representatives of the district.
