Showing apprehensions about the fairness of next general elections in the country, Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) chief Makhdoom Amin Fahim has demanded formation of a caretaker government before holding the elections in 2007.
He also stressed on restoring the 1973 Constitution to what it was in 1999 and holding of elections under an independent Election Commission.
Fahim, who was on his way to Larkana for attending 27th death anniversary of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was talking to newsmen at breakfast on here on Monday.
The ARD chief criticising President Prevez Musharraf for presiding over the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) meeting, said after this, the fairness of next general elections in the country had become doubtful.
"Another instance of pre-poll rigging plans of the government is that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has claimed success of PML-Q in advance of the general elections," he said.
To a question, Amin Fahim said they were prepared to hold talks with all the political parties and leaders, including Pir Sahib Pagara and Altaf Hussain in view of prevailing situation and the issues faced by the country.
"Although, the present assemblies were rubberstamp, the ARD and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) earnestly desire that they must complete their tenure," he said.
However, he said that the prevailing conditions indicated that the general elections could be held any time.
To another question, Amin Fahim said that PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif would definitely return to Pakistan this year to play an effective role for restoration of real democracy in Pakistan.
