A strategy had been prepared for putting the agriculture sector on scientific lines and to introduce new agricultural technologies for increasing per acre yield of crops in Sialkot district, said District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema.
Talking to reporters here late Saturday, he said that under the programme special attention would be accorded effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system, and ensuring the sufficient availability of quality seeds in the district. The green houses would be set up at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district, he revealed.
Akmal Cheema said that during current fiscal year 67 watercourses, of which 50 watercourses in canal areas and 17 in Barani areas, would be completed in the district.
In order to set up agriculture laboratory Rs 3,000,000 had be set aside for the purpose, while Rs 7,000,000 had been earmarked for the establishment of veterinary centres in the district, he disclosed.
Akmal Cheema said the work on ongoing seven livestock schemes costing Rs 5.870 million was in full swing and more funds amounting to Rs 3.167 million had been allocated during current fiscal year for the completion of schemes.
