Federal Minister for Health Muhammad Nasir Khan on Friday stressed the need for making concerted efforts to mobilise people for taking prevention to avoid diseases.
He was speaking as a chief guest at an opening session of a two-day first international working conference "Health Informatics" organised by Comsats here.
He said that joint and co-ordinated efforts should be made to create awareness and bring behavioural change among the people and this ambitious task, he added, could be performed jointly by media, public health sector, education and private sector.
He added that educational institutions should groom its students for conducting research in the wonders of nature in order to get in depth knowledge of every phenomenon, taking place around.
"Culture of conducting research should be introduced, and our Holy Quran embodies research-based knowledge, which is to be resorted to catch up with the developed countries", the minister observed.
The minister said though the modern discipline of Health Informatics was relatively young but its scope was enormous and added that modern healthcare had moved away from seeing disease in isolation to understanding that illness occurred at complex system of level. "By seeing things at a system level, we come ever closer to understanding what it really means to be diseased, and how that state can be reversed we now need to make conceptual leap and begin to see the great systems of knowledge, tools, language and methods. Despite, the real answer to medical management still lies with prevention", he added.
He said for the first time in Pakistan, the Health Informatics unit, faculty of Information Sciences and Technology, was offering MS in Health Informatics as a two track programmes.
On completion of these programmes, he said, trainees would have adequate knowledge of accessing and processing health and clinical information and basic principles of patients and hospitals database system and statistical analysis of a data, various standardisation protocols and useful query language.
