A delegation of 50 students of National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore, headed by their teachers visited the Supreme Court of Pakistan here on Friday.
They witnessed proceedings of the court and held a meeting with Chief Justice, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Registrar of the Apex Court, Faqir Hussain, says a press release issued here by Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Registrar briefed the delegates about the system of administration of justice in the country and working and jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
He informed the students of the composition of judiciary of the country and said the Supreme Court of Pakistan was the apex Court of the country, while high courts were the principal courts of the respective provinces and civil courts and sessions courts were lower courts.
Dr Faqir Hussain said, societies were built on the foundation of law and called upon the students that being good citizens they should abide by the law and play positive role on their part to build a just and peaceful society.
He told them that fundamental rights are guaranteed in the Constitution of Pakistan and according to the fundamental rights: "every citizen of the country is entitled to move anywhere in the country, do any job of his choice and enjoy the freedom of belief within the limits of writ of the state; no one is entitled to commit any offence to hurt other one."
He said the Islamic law had become victim of neglect and that was why sometimes a contradiction between the Islamic law and law of the land appears.
