A spokesperson of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights said on Sunday that specialisation in the superior courts in various domains of administration of justice "has become necessary" for expeditious disposal of cases.
She was commenting on a statement of the President of Supreme Court Bar Association, Abdul Qayyum, and Vice Chairman of PBC, Quetta, Ali Ahmed Kurd, criticising courts management and case management proposals prepared by the government.
She said that since accelerated economic activities and urbanisation have brought the commercial and taxation cases on the forefront and managing the High Courts in a traditional manner was no more conducive for healthy results, the government was considering that specialised benches in High Courts should be categorised.
She said that it is the earnest approach of the government to update the judicial system, provide justice to the common man expediently and reduce the tyranny of litigation in the society. The spokesperson emphasised that the government would welcome any suggestions from the stakeholders, like Bar Associations and High Courts and their input would be much appreciated.
She observed that the proposal to establish a High Court for Islamabad Capital Territory was also misconstrued, as ICT is not part of any province and enjoys constitutional status as independent territory.
