N.A. Khan in his letter, "auto industry", has said that the local auto manufacturers only ask for 10 or 15 percent advance when booking a car instead of full payment, which is the norm. Unfortunately, he believes that this will help the local manufacturers, as people would not mind leaving a smaller amount for a longer period.
I do not agree with this as everywhere we read of how full payment at the booking time, actually helps deter investors and non-genuine buyers from booking cars.
Imported cars, Khan says can provide relief to the consumers but, while an imported car attracts the customers with its fancy speculations, in reality it will be nothing more than a burden. An imported car has no dealers or dealerships to whom the car can be sent to for after sales service, while the locally manufactured cars have their own dealerships who provide all the service and tune-ups necessary.
I personally feel that it is better to wait for the delivery of a locally manufactured car as we can be assured of the quality of the car we are purchasing, the after-sales service being provided and the availability of its spare parts.
