Trade and business community observed a complete shutter down strike in the provincial capital on Thursday to mourn the killings of innocent people in Karachi on the occasion of Eid Milad un Nabi (SAW).
Traders of all the big city markets and business centers including commodity market, paper market and currency markets kept their shutters down to show their sorrow and grief over the tragic incident. The representatives of trade bodies said that there was complete strike in the city and except those situated in side areas, all major business establishments remained closed throughout the day. Quami Tajir Ittehad - Lahore Chapter gave the strike of call.
Although there was no strike of transport, yet following the closure of business activities, it was relatively low.
The markets, which were closed included The Mall, Abid Market, Suha Bazaar, Shah Alam Market, Anarkali, Liberty, Ichhra, Ferozpur Road, Jail Road, Samanabad, Brandreth Road, Queens Road, Azam Cloth, Wahdat Road, Montgomery Road, Badami Bagh, Moon Market, Multan Road, McLeod Road, Hall Road, Beden Road, etc.
Qaumi Tajir Itehad President Shaikh Mushtaq Ahmed, Lahore Chapter chief Ansar Zahoor Butt, Anjuman-e-Tajaran President Haji Maqsood Butt and Lahore President Ashraf Bhatti condemned the Karachi incident. They said the traders' community shared the grief of the bereaved families and that was why a complete strike was observed in the provincial capital.
They also urged the government to take practical steps to improve law and order in the country, particularly in Karachi, and apprehend the culprits behind the Karachi blast.
