Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) holding a reception for Christian community on the occasion of Easter festivity here on Thursday cut a cake and told the community that the entire nation was indebted for the role they had played for strengthening of Pakistan.
The governor also distributed cheques of Rs 3,000 each to 200 Christian community members on the occasion. Khalid Maqbool averred that there was a commonality of culture, rituals between various segments of society here and the factor added to strengthening of concept of Pakistan, he told.
He told Christians to revive their role in education and health sectors, as the community had excelled in these fields here in past. He especially mentioned of President Musharraf's role in providing the Christians their due rights in the country on the occasion.
Minority MPA Shahzad Elahi speaking on this occasion appreciated the leadership of President Musharraf in giving back their institutions. He also hailed the President for giving them the right to vote.
Punjab Minister for Minorities Ruffin Julius, Christian leader MM Shad, senior officials and a large number of people from Christian community were present on the occasion.
