The Indian Air Force, plagued by frequent air crashes, apologised Friday for flying the national flag upside down at a meeting of top brass. "Corrective action" was pledged after the flag was displayed upside down on the podium where air chief marshall Satish Tyagi spoke.
Showing disrespect to the flag can attract criminal charges in India. "We sincerely apologise for the mistake that has been committed unknowingly," said air force spokesman Mahesh Upasini.
"It is a case of oversight and we are taking corrective action so that we ensure that such things are not repeated in the future," the wing commander told Times Now television.
