Patty Schnyder ended Justine Henin-Hardenne's perfect run at Charleston on Saturday as she booked a berth in the final of this WTA clay court tournament.
The third-seeded Swiss rallied to beat top seed and defending champion Henin-Hardenne 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to book a clash with second-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova.
Henin-Hardenne saw her unbeaten run in Charleston end at 14 matches. The reigning French Open champion from Belgium, Henin-Hardenne won the title here in 2003, missed 2004 and returned last year to reclaim the title.
Petrova reached the final with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over her doubles partner, sixth-seeded German Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
"We went actually this morning like players who had to play each other, not like doubles partners," Petrova said.
"It's just another match," Groenefeld said. "I mean, who play doubles, but when you go out on the singles court, you always try to win, so it's not a big difference than any other match, and later on we're going to go back out there together and try to win."
Petrova will be seeking her second straight title after her triumph last week at Amelia Island, Florida.
She also won the title in Doha, Qatar, in March when her victory in the final over France's Amelie Mauresmo briefly delayed Mauresmo's return to the top opf the world rankings.
"I'm feeling very confident out there," Petrova said. "I'm really rolling in those matches. I don't feel nervous. I don't feel tense, and it's just very consistent."
