A follow-up meeting regarding working of Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs) in Sindh was convened by Monitoring Judge Rehmat Hussain Jaffery and a number of decisions were taken.
The Presiding Judges of ATCs were directed to strictly follow the guide-lines as laid down by Supreme Court in Shaikh Liaquat Hussain's case. Emphasis was laid on the disposal of cases within seven days and they were asked to comply with the directions in letter and spirit.
The Presiding Officers of ATCs were also directed to submit daily progress report of cases, for Monitoring Judge, Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery. On pointation by ATC Presiding Officers that Special Prosecutors appointed by Government in a number of cases are not attending the courts regularly, result in delay in the proceedings, the Monitoring Judge directed that Secretary Law be informed about it to issue directive to such Special Prosecutors to be punctual and regular.
It was decided that directives will be issued to Home Secretary for shifting of prisoners to jail where trials of their cases is being conducted. The Home Secretary was further directed to immediately resolve the problems of housing and security being faced by the ATC judges.
