Justice Javed Iqbal, a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday took oath of his office as Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan in a ceremony held at Supreme Court Building.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered oath of the office to Justice Javed Iqbal. The ceremony was attended by the judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court, advocates and advocates-on-record, law officers and office bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Pakistan Bar Council. The ceremony began with the recitation from the Holy Quran.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner will perform his duties in the absence of Chief Election Commissioner, former Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq who proceeded abroad on official visit. The Chief Justice of Pakistan, in pursuance of Article 217 of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan nominated Justice Javed Iqbal, a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to act as Chief Election Commissioner.
