The export-oriented Sialkot city has successfully followed the example of Japan, Germany, Korea, Taiwan and other countries in the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) culture.
Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Dr Nouman Idrees Butt stated this while giving a briefing to a 35-member delegation of senior banking officials from 23 countries on Sialkot's unique export culture and socio-economic development on self-help basis by the business community.
He said the government and other financial institutions were lending support to the export sector and "we are foreseeing growth of exports and development of the SMEs at a fast pace in Sialkot, as the SMEs have been producing only exportable items and enjoy special status in the international market for their products."
The SCCI President said the exporters of Sialkot were the roaming ambassadors of Pakistan, who travelled all around the world to fetch the business. With their personal efforts, the export earnings of Sialkot stood at 800 million dollars annually, which was six percent of the total exports of Pakistan, he added.
Senior banking officials from 23 countries, including Japan, China, Libya, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Sudan, Taiwan, South and West Africa, Male, Uganda, and Tajakistan visited the SCCI recently.
