Information minister Sheikh Rashid has said new political alliance between Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) would not affect the overall political atmosphere in the country.
He was talking to journalists after inaugurating the week-long 'Gandhara Week' here on Monday. "Such charters and alliances can not change the political landscape of the country," he said. The opposition has failed in brining people on streets against the government, which shows that people have lost faith in these parties," he maintained.
The minister was of the view Benazir should think hundred times before taking such a decision, as it was the Nawaz government, which had filed cases against her. Muslim League voters would never cast their votes in favour of the PPP candidates, thereby, making the alliance meaningless. he said.
Earlier, addressing the ceremony, he said there is a need to tap available tourism potential in the country. Tourism sector plays an important role in the economic development of the country, however, in Pakistan this sector has been ignored for a long time, he observed. He said the present government has done much in attracting foreign tourists by highlighting its soft image in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, tourism secretary Salim Gul Sheikh said tourism industry always plays an important role in the economic development of any country. Presently it is the fastest growing industry in the world.
It is a trillion-dollar industry with revenues growing at the rate of almost 10 percent annually according to some estimates, he said and added figure is expected to reach two-trillion-dollar mark by the year 2020.
