More than 800 special children will participate in the Awareness, Fund and Food Programme for the special children to be held here at Zoological Gardens (Lahore Zoo) on Thursday (April 27).
Karachi-based artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer is organising the programme for physically handicapped, mentally retarded, deaf, dumb and blind children. Jimmy has already arrived in Lahore from Karachi on a week-long good will visit for hosting the programme for special children.
Jimmy Engineer told reporters here on Wednesday that about 800 special children from various public and private sectors special education institutions were expected to participate in the programme.
Special children participating in the programme will be provided with an opportunity to demonstrate their artistic skills and potentials, interacting with each other and take a round of the Zoo with their teachers and attendants.
About 500 special children attended the first programme in the Zoo on January 26, 2006. Jimmy said the main objective behind such programmes was to create greater awareness about the special children in the society at large in general and the parents and close relatives of the special children in particular. Merely calling the disabled and handicapped children as special children was not enough.
