National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) organised a day long National Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under the theme 'Human Face of Business' here recently at local hotel.
According to a press release, the chief guest at the inaugural session - Minister of State for Environment Malik Amin Aslam Khan said the corporate entities, due to their very makeup had an innate ability to do immense good to the societies they function in.
Increasing realisation of CSR is rapidly bridging the gap between the society and the corporations and it is this spirit of inclusion that is so important to trickle down the benefits of business to the common people, especially the marginalised sections of the society, he added.
The realisation of CSR assists in translating this ability into actual commitment that impacts society in a very positive manner. Corporate bodies are viewed by the society in general as powerhouses of resources that are used to accrue well to the business community.
The minister said that Pakistan was growing at very rapid pace second to China and it would further grow by six per cent in future as well annually. "Economic growth and environment are inter linked. Economic growth is very important, but environment should also be given equal importance, as it is becoming a growing problem in large cities of Pakistan due to industrialisation and transport. As a result, three per cent of GDP is being spent every year on treatment of water and air born diseases," he mentioned.-PR
