Inaugurating the 6.4 billion-dollar mega Bhasha-Diamir Dam project, President General Pervez Musharraf has fulfilled another promise made with the nation, said Federal Minister for Political Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam on Thursday.
In a statement, the Federal Minister, highlighting the dire need for construction of water reservoirs in the country, said: "If water reservoirs were not constructed at the earliest, the country would face acute shortage of water in the next few years that could create dangerous crises".
He blasted the indifferent attitude of the previous governments towards the most important issue of water storage and said they had no dimension to ponder over it (water storage) seriously.
However, President Pervez Musharraf shortly after taking over prioritised this national issue and diverted the nation's attention towards construction of water reservoirs and cautioned that if water were not stored at different places in the country, an unending crisis would be created. "Inauguration of construction work on Bhasha-Diamir Dam would pave the way for prosperity in the country", he remarked.
