The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) will introduce around 10 new CNG buses next month in the metropolis, while 300 CNG buses are planned to be inducted next year.
CDGK Transport and Communication Department (TCD) official told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that CDGK had evolved a plan to induct around 8,000 CNG buses in the city in next five years.
The official said that in line with the CDGK plan, around 10 new CNG buses would be inducted in the exiting fleet of the 228 CNG buses next month, while induction of 300 CNG buses were planned for next year.
He said the induction of environment-friendly vehicles was aimed to replace the old and dilapidated buses, mini-buses and coaches ageing more than 30 years, which had caused immense commuting problems for people and created air-pollution.
He said the TCD was holding a road safety, drivers' training programme to acquaint drivers with modern way of driving and road safety codes and traffic laws.
The official said the ratio of road mishap in the metropolis was on rise as 600 people died in road mishaps while 26 percent children and 52 percent pedestrians fell victim to road mishaps every year.
