Pakistan Peoples' Party Parliamentarians on Thursday filed an adjournment motion with the National Assembly Secretariat, seeking debate over the 'killing' of a driver at a Motorway toll plaza near Kamalpur.
The motion contended that the death of a bus driver allegedly at the hands of a Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) employee at the plaza has caused 'grave concern' amongst the public, therefore, the matter might be debated in the Assembly.
It referred to media reports, saying the driver died due to manhandling by the FWO official.
The driver was killed at midnight on Saturday April 15. Inter-Services Public Relations had out-rightly denied allegations of torture and highhandedness, but confirmed exchange of hot words between the driver and a plaza employee, and that the former had fell unconscious and later died en route to a hospital.
Under the rules, the chair can allow a minimum two-hour debate on the issue if he deems it according to the rules, after a brief statement by the mover and co-movers in favour of the motion.
PPPP's Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Nayyar Bokhari, Qamar Zaman, Manzoor Ahmad, Tasleem Qureshi and Ghulam Murtaza Satti signed the motion, which was submitted to the Secretariat by Alliance for Restoration of Democracy Parliamentary Secretary Izhar Amrohvi.
He said that in case, the Speaker Amir Hussain did not allow a debate, the opposition lawmakers would insist on speaking on the issue on point of order.
ARD also filed two separate applications, requesting the Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain to issue production order of detained Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) lawmakers Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Khawaja Saad Rafique.
