A high level meeting chaired by the NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman at Governor's House on Saturday reviewed various arrangements made to check illegal and unauthorised cross border movements on Durand Line.
The Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi besides the IGFC Maj. General Muhammad Alam Khattak, Secretary Fata Muhammad Shahzad Arbab, Secretary to Governor Arbab Muhammad Arif, the political agents of Mohmand, North Waziristan and South Waziristan agencies and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
The participants were briefed on the border situation, the terrain and the easement rights being enjoyed by the divided tribes to cross the border. It was told that the border was very porous having many unfrequented routes through rugged mountains.
The meeting noted that a mechanism must be devised to put an end to the illegal cross border movement. However it was proposed that such a mechanism should streamline and facilitate the movement of the concerned recognised tribes living along side the border.
The governor while expressing his views on different issues raised on the occasion underlined the need for effective measures to check cross border movement particularly of the unwanted elements. He in this connection also stressed that information gathering apparatuses must be vibrant and vigilant.
The governor assured that the respective tribes would continue to avail the easement rights over border but the entire procedure would be brought under the fold of a systematic and regularised mechanism.
