Punjab Minister for Transport Rana Shamshad Ahmed Khan on Sunday said the public transport would be switched over to CNG under 'clean air programme' in next three years.
He said this while talking to delegations of transporters at his office here on Sunday. He said the government was working on a programme to control air and noise pollution in urban areas to provide clean environment to the citizens. He said the use of CNG had witnessed a record increase in recent years due to the incentives given by the government in that regard.
The four-stroke CNG rickshaws have also been introduced for which the Punjab government is providing interest-free loan, he said adding the process of loans for CNG rickshaws had been made easy.
He urged the transporters to take advantage of the incentives offered by the government to them and help in controlling pollution to provide better environment to people.
Transport department would launch a campaign to create awareness among public about pollution, he said. The pressure horns would also be removed from buses and other vehicles during the campaign to check noise pollution, he added.
