The Senate Standing Committee on Defence on Wednesday decided to question various military departments about their performance and expenditures to strengthen a parliamentary grip over an unbridled institution.
At a meeting here, the panel decided its members would visit the sites of military installations and subordinate departments of the army, including ISI and would have briefings from officials about their performances.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, committee's chairman Senator Nisar Memon said it had been unanimously decided that all members would visit all the sites where Pakistan Army was deployed to defend the country including the Line of Control (LoC), Siachen front and ISI headquarters.
"We will have briefings from Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy officials to determine their performance," he added.
The senator said the effort was aimed at strengthening democracy in the country. "We associate great importance to this effort in this regard," he added.
He added the government had decided to seek suggestions and involve all stakeholders in the preparations of National Aviation Policy, 2006.
Nisar Memon said the panel had decided to summon joint committee meeting to prepare a strategy for the country in case of a possible US attack on Iran.
